A University Helps Prepare Low-Income Youths for College: Tracking School Success.
Tierney, William G.; Jun, Alexander
Journal of Higher Education, v72 n2 p205-25 Mar-Apr 2001
Examines college preparation programs for low-income, urban, minority youths. Offers overview of college preparation models and analyzes a university-sponsored, inner-city program in which approximately 67 percent of participating students graduated from high school and enrolled in a university. Finally, proposes a "culturally responsive model" that would require affirmation of local identities and active participation of families, teachers, and universities. (Author/EV)
