Approach to Learning, the Cognitive Demands of Assessment, and Achievement in Physics.
Dickie, Leslie O.
Canadian Journal of Higher Education, v33 n1 p87-111 2003
Sought to determine first-year physics students' approaches to learning, the intellectual demands of their exams (using Bloom's taxonomy), and correlations between the approach to learning, assessment demands, and student performance. Found that most students approached physics with the intention of memorizing formulae rather than understanding concepts, and that this approach correlated with the demands of the exams and students' performance.
