Selecting and Using Course Readings: A Study of Instructors' and Students' Practices.
Bischoping, Katherine
Canadian Journal of Higher Education, v33 n1 p25-58 2003
Examined factors influencing instructors' selection of course readings and students' reading patterns. Found that instructors were informed by pedagogical objectives, such as challenging students, exposing them to diverse sources, and reinforcing central course themes, as well as non-pedagogical factors such as reducing expense and author gender. Students' recall of readings was unaffected by workload but may be diminished by assignment late in the academic year. (EV)
