Kuhnle, Claudia; Sinclair, Marta; Hofer, Manfred; Kilian, Britta – Journal of Experimental Education, 2014
Students' learning activities frequently compete with their leisure options, leading to regret after decisions to study. Fenesi, Barbara; Heisz, Jennifer J.; Savage, Philip I.; Shore, David I.; Kim, Joseph A. – Journal of Experimental Education, 2014
This experiment combined controlled experimental design with a best-practice approach (i.e., real course content, subjective evaluations) to clarify the role of verbal redundancy, confirm the multimodal impact of images and narration, and highlight discrepancies between actual and perceived understanding. The authors presented 1 of 3…

Muis, Krista R.; Gierus, Bogusia – Journal of Experimental Education, 2014
The authors examined whether students' epistemic and learning beliefs varied across different knowledge types in physics. On the basis of various beliefs frameworks, the authors predicted that individuals' beliefs would vary within a domain across the same content when presented conceptually versus procedurally. Participants were 81 high…

Muis, Krista R.; Ranellucci, John; Franco, Gina M.; Crippen, Kent J. – Journal of Experimental Education, 2013
The authors explored whether manipulating feedback influenced cognition, motivation, and achievement in an undergraduate chemistry course. They measured students' ("N" = 250) achievement goals, test anxiety, self-efficacy, and metacognitive strategy use at the beginning and end of the semester. After completing the first set of…

Taboada Barber, Ana; Buehl, Michelle M. – Journal of Experimental Education, 2013
The authors extend previous work on students' perceptions of teachers' autonomy-enhancing and autonomy-suppressing behaviors in relation to students' engagement to a more situated context (i.e., two Grade 4 science instructional conditions instead of school in general) and a linguistically diverse population (i.e., Hispanic…

Peer reviewedMartens, Fred L. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
A scale measuring attitude toward physical education was developed for elementary school children in grades 4 to 7. Correlation between scores obtained on the scale and a self-rating produced coefficients ranging from .22 to .82. Reliability ranged from .57 to .81. No significant difference was found between sexes. (Author/GDC)

Peer reviewedZeichner, Kenneth M. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1980
A 22-item instrument (My Classmates) was developed to measure fifth-sixth graders' perceptions of their peer relationships, and administered to 621 students. The instrument's reliability and validity were supported. Group membership was found to be related to certain student characteristics. (The questionnaire is appended). (GDC)
