The Sources of Children's Errors during Nonisomorphic Analogical Transfer: Script Theory and Structure Mapping Theory.
Pierce, Karen A.; And Others
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, v62 n1 p102-30 Jun 1996
Examined structure mapping and script theory predictions regarding nonisomorphic analogical transfer and procedural change among second and third graders. Found that subjects easily applied the base--the solution to the original problem--to nonisomorphic targets, new problems with different goal structure, constraints, and problem spaces. However, many children erred when required to modify the base to incorporate additional constraints. (KDFB)
