Effort, Interest, and Recall: Beliefs and Behaviors of Preschoolers.
O'Sullivan, Julia T.
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, v65 n1 p43-67 Apr 1997
Examined preschoolers' beliefs about relationships between effort, interest, and recall; assessed actual effort and recall under different interest levels. Found that children believed recall increases with effort and interest, and that interest influences effort. Children's actual interest influenced effort, but effort was unrelated to recall. Compared with boys, girls held naive beliefs, associated with strategic behavior and better recall. (KDFB)
