The Effect of Retrieval Cues on Visual Preferences and Memory in Infancy: Evidence for a Four-Phase Attention Function.
Bahrick, Lorraine E.; Hernandez-Reif, Maria; Pickens, Jeffrey N.
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, v67 n1 p1-20 Oct 1997
Tested hypothesis from Bahrick and Pickens' infant attention model that retrieval cues increase memory accessibility and shift visual preferences toward greater novelty to resemble recent memories. Found that after retention intervals associated with remote or intermediate memory, previous familiarity preferences shifted to null or novelty preferences, respectively. Increasing exposure to retrieval cue shifted preference from familiarity to novelty. (Author/KB)
