Communication and Metacommunication: Quality of Children's Instructions in Relation to Judgments about the Adequacy of Instructions and the Locus of Responsibility for Communication Failure.
Robinson, E. J.; Robinson, W. P.
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, v36 n2 p305-20 Oct 1983
Investigates the relationship between five- and seven-year-old children's communicative performance and their level of understanding about message ambiguity and communication failure. Level of understanding about communication was assessed by asking the child to ascribe blame for communication failure following an ambiguous message and to judge whether the speaker had told enough.
