This research analyses the effects of situational factors, along with environmental quality (EQ) attitudes, in understanding why some people become involved in pollution-abating activities. Findings indicate that closeness to the effects of polluting behavior stimulate more powerful concern and action than closeness to the source of polluted conditions. (BT)
