Griffith University implemented the first Australian undergraduate degree program in interdisciplinary environmental studies. This paper discusses an introductory field experience incorporated to familiarize staff and students and to provide ecological and urban analysis exercises. The project conducted in a coastal valley incorporates field trips, group discussions, and a land-use forum. (MR)
