Assesses the environmental knowledge and attitudes held by community leaders in the Hualien area of Taiwan. The overall level of environmental knowledge was determined to be moderately high and attitudes appear to be positive. Education level was the best predictor of environmental knowledge and attitudes. An interdisciplinary focus in environmental education is provided by a list of 112 concepts appropriate for environmental education produced by scholars from 40 professional areas and 12 United States ecological regions.
