Wang, Xiaohui; Bradlow, Eric T.; Wainer, Howard; Muller, Eric S. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2008
In the course of screening a form of a medical licensing exam for items that function differentially (DIF) between men and women, the authors used the traditional Mantel-Haenszel (MH) statistic for initial screening and a Bayesian method for deeper analysis. For very easy items, the MH statistic unexpectedly often found DIF where there was none.…

Bradlow, Eric T. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2003
In this article, the author comments on an article by Dunn, Kadane, and Garrow, "Comparing Harm Done by Mobility and Class Absence: Missing Students and Missing Data." He believes the research reported in that article should serve as a model for future applications of Bayesian methods in important educational research problems. The author lauds…

Bradlow, Eric T.; Hoch, Stephen J.; Hutchinson, J. Wesley – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2002
Developed a test of basic computer proficiency, examined its properties using parametric test scoring methods, and identified antecedents and consequences of differences in performance. Data from 1,520 Internet users suggest that the test yields an approximately unidimensional measure of basic computer proficiency. (SLD)

Bradlow, Eric T.; Weiss, Robert E. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2001
Compares four methods that map outlier statistics to a familiarity probability scale (a "P" value). Explored these methods in the context of computerized adaptive test data from a 1995 nationally administered computerized examination for professionals in the medical industry. (SLD)

Bradlow, Eric T.; Thomas, Neal – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 1998
A set of conditions is presented for the validity of inference for Item Response Theory (IRT) models applied to data collected from examinations that allow students to choose a subset of items. Common low-dimensional IRT models estimated by standard methods do not resolve the difficult problems posed by choice-based data. (SLD)

Bradlow, Eric T. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 1996
The three-parameter logistic (3-PL) model is described and a derivation of the 3-PL observed information function is presented for a single binary response from one examinee with known item parameters. Formulas are presented for the probability of negative information and for the expected information (always nonnegative). (SLD)
