Investigating Topic-Related Attitude: Effect on Reading and Remembering Text.
Reutzel, D. Ray; Hollingsworth, Paul M.
Journal of Educational Research, v84 n6 p334-44 Jul-Aug 1991
Explored the effect of topic-related attitudes on sixth graders' learning and remembering. Students in control, favorable-attitude, or unfavorable-attitude instruction groups heard neutral, positive, or negative passages read aloud. Results suggest experimentally created topic-related attitudes do not interfere with the immediate recall of text-based information or cause students to selectively encode that information. (SM)
