Grandy's River Collegiate: Can a Rural School Survive in an Urban Landscape?
Brown, Jean
Alberta Journal of Educational Research, v42 n3 p238-51 Sep 1996
One school in Canada's Exemplary Schools Project, Grandy's River Collegiate, is a rural high school threatened with closure because it does not meet Newfoundland's new "viability" requirements (primarily involving school size). Compares characteristics of several types of schools, and suggests that schools such as Grandy's are suited to the rural context and the needs and values of their communities. (SV)
