The "Crisis" of Confidence in Schools and the Neoconservative Agenda: Diverging Opinions of Corporate Executives and the General Public.
Hart, Doug; Livingstone, D. W.
Alberta Journal of Educational Research, v44 n1 p1-19 Spr 1998
Reexamination of national Canadian surveys and Ontario surveys, 1979-1993, revealed that confidence and satisfaction ratings for public education followed a wave-like pattern over time for both general public opinion and parental attitudes. In contrast, corporate executives showed declining confidence in schools and strongly supported neoconservative policies of fiscal austerity and use of market mechanisms. Contains 29 references. (SV)
