High School Extracurricular Activities: Closed Structures and Stratifying Patterns of Participation.
McNeal, Ralph B.
Journal of Educational Research, v91 n3 p183-91 Jan-Feb 1998
Investigated patterns of participation in high school extracurricular activities, using data from the National Educational Longitudinal Study of 1998. Students of upper socioeconomic status and higher ability were more likely to participate in extracurricular activities; girls were more likely to participate than boys (except in sports); and minority students were as likely or more likely than white students to participate.
