Comparison of Phonological Training Procedures in Kindergarten Classrooms.
Qi, Sharon; O'Connor, Rollanda
Journal of Educational Research, v93 n4 p226-33 Mar-Apr 2000
Compared the effect of two phonological training procedures (segmenting and blending or first sound identification and rhyming) on low-skilled kindergarten students' acquisition of reading and spelling skills. Both groups of students improved significantly in target skills, reading, and spelling. There were no significant differences between groups on skill acquisition, transfer to untaught skills, or generalization to reading and spelling. (SM)
