Influence of Parents' Self-Feelings and Expectations on Children's Academic Performance.
Kaplan, Diane S.; Liu, Xiaoru; Kaplan, Howard B.
Journal of Educational Research, v94 n6 p360-70 Jul-Aug 2001
Investigated the moderating influence of parents' negative self-feelings on the relationship between parental educational attainment and children's self-perceived parental expectations and between children's self-perceived parental expectations and academic performance. A significant relationship existed between parental educational attainment and educational expectations for their children. Parental expectations and transmission of those expectations were modified by how parents felt about themselves. (SM)
