Anomalous Information Triggers Questions When Adults Solve Quantitative Problems and Comprehend Stories.
Graesser, Arthur C.; McMahen, Cathy L.
Journal of Educational Psychology, v85 n1 p136-51 Mar 1993
Whether anomalous information causes an increase in questions generated by college students as they solve quantitative problems or comprehend stories was studied in 5 experiments involving 160 undergraduates. Results support an anomaly hypothesis that predicts more questions when there are anomalous transformations of original problems or stories. (SLD)
