Automaticity of Word Recognition under Phonics and Whole-Word Instruction.
Spring, Carl
Journal of Educational Psychology, v70 n4 p445-50 Aug 1978

Whole-word instruction resulted in word recognition mechanisms similar to fully automated mechanisms, but phonics instruction did not. (Author/BH)
