Diffusion Effects: Control Group Contamination Threats to the Validity of Teacher-Administered Interventions.
Craven, Rhonda G.; Marsh, Herbert W.; Debus, Raymond L.; Jayasinghe, Upali
Journal of Educational Psychology, v93 n3 p639-45 Sep 2001
Within-class experimental designs are subject to diffusion effects whereby both experimental and control students benefit from the intervention, thereby contaminating the control group and biasing evaluations of intervention effects. In support of diffusion effects, this study showed that a classroom intervention resulted in higher academic self-concepts for internal controls compared with external controls. (Author)
