Kim, Seonghoon; Feldt, Leonard S. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 2008
This article extends the Bonett (2003a) approach to testing the equality of alpha coefficients from two independent samples to the case of m [greater than or equal] 2 independent samples. The extended Fisher-Bonett test and its competitor, the Hakstian-Whalen (1976) test, are illustrated with numerical examples of both hypothesis testing and power…

Derives a method for estimating conditional measurement error variances, that is, error variances specific to individual examinees or specific to each point on the raw score scale of the test. Uses empirical data to corroborate the principal theoretical deductions. (Author/SLD)

A relatively simple method is developed to obtain confidence intervals for a student's proportion of domain mastery in criterion-referenced or mastery measurement situations. The method uses the binomial distribution as a model for the student's scores under hypothetically repeated assessments, and it makes use of widely available "F" tables. (SLD)

The net effect of the conditions under which tests are taken was empirically investigated using the scores obtained by high school students on an English and a mathematics test. (Author/BB)

Two new reliability coefficients have been derived for situations in which a test must be divided into parts of unequal length. This report summarizes a study of the statistical bias and the standard errors of these coefficients and compares them to Guttman's lambda coefficients and Cronbach's alpha coefficient. (Author/JKS)

This paper provides a guide to the minimum size of treatment groups, inferred from the relationships between pupil norms and norms for class averages of standardized achievement tests. (Editor)

It is recognized that the typical difference score used by educators is likely to be relatively weak in reliability. Formulas are developed for estimating changes in the reliability of X-Y under the assumption of equal or unequal variances before and after reliabilities are modified. (SLD)
