Diamagnetic Anisotropy: Two Iron Complexes as Laboratory Examples
Fernandez, Ignacio; Sanchez, Jorge Fernando Fernandez
Journal of Chemical Education, v87 n3 p320-322 Mar 2010
There are relatively few experiments describing the NMR properties of bis(amine) iron(II) phthalocyanine complexes. Several features make this experiment attractive: First, it nicely illustrates the diamagnetic anisotropy phenomena, providing both students and teachers an opportunity to gain insight into aspects such as phase correction and integration. Second, it gives the students hands-on experience with the NMR spectrometer and general aspects of one- and two-dimensional spectra processing. Finally, inorganic coordination synthetic work is needed and proved to be simple and high yielding. (Contains 3 figures and 1 note.)
