Presents the problems and objectives of a course for the non-science major. Includes an outline of the course with the methods used to make the material meaningful. Examples are used to show how controversy, current events, readings, and general discussions can be used effectively. (DS)

American Chemical Society Chemistry for Citizens" Panel included among its recommendations that: (a) elementary school science should emphasize curiosity and discovery, (b) elementary teachers should be trained to use discovery and enquiry techniques, (c) humanism should be incorporated in all levels of science instruction.
