Shindell, Dav M.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Describes four cases for which simulation techniques can be used to analyze the kinetics of the chemical system. Included are series first-order and enzyme kinetics. (MA)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education, Kinetics

Kuehl, LeRoy – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Introduces an approach to teaching amino acids that employs the use of a poem containing information on the structure and properties of amino acids, and of slides illustrating the poem. Student response to the method was positive. (MA)
Descriptors: Biochemistry, Chemistry, College Science, Demonstrations (Educational)

Brown, Bruce W. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Data from this study suggest that evaluations of long-term accumulations of students' laboratory analyses should be standard procedure to detect deviations from the accepted true assays. Efforts are recommended to determine the cause of the error and the implications or grading procedures reconsidered. (Author/MA)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, Educational Research

Friel, S.; Johnstone, A. H. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Compares four different scoring systems in a study of 103 subjects answering a 20 item multiple choice test. Three of the four systems uses a weighted response technique, giving credit for partial knowledge. This seemed to have a significant effect on final grades and gave a more accurate grade representation. (MA)

Wotiz, John H., Ed.; Pearson, Ralph G. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Describes the scientists and the work they did to study mechanisms of stable complexes of cobalt (III) using kinetic methods. Traces the work from 1946 to the present. (MA)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, Kinetics, Mechanics (Process)

Bardole, Ellen, Ed.; Bardole, Jay, Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Describes a forensic science course designed to give criminal justice students the knowledge and technology of science to solve a crime. The article includes a listing of topic areas, suggestions for the presentation of the content material, and an outline of the content and design. (MA)
Descriptors: Biology, Chemistry, Course Content, Course Descriptions

Kolb, Doris – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Discusses ways of teaching the mole concept in high school chemistry classes. Provides resource information on the mole and Avogadro's Number. Includes an explanation of four methods for measuring Avogadro's Number and instructions on how to use the mole. (MA)
Descriptors: Chemistry, Concept Formation, Instructional Materials, Mathematical Applications

Herron, J. Dudley, Ed.; Sherwood, Robert D. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Reports the findings of a study done to compare student attitude and achievement in two different chemistry curriculum programs. Results indicate no significant difference in either attitude or achievement scores on the exam administered. Neither program was found to be better than the other. (MA)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Chemistry, Curriculum Evaluation, Educational Research
