Teaching VSEPR: The Plastic Egg Model.
Birk, James P.; Abbassain, Soraya
Journal of Chemical Education, v73 n7 p636-37 Jul 1996
Describes the construction of a versatile, accessible, and inexpensive model to demonstrate the Valence-Shell Electron-Pair Repulsion Theory (VSEPR). Depicts the different orientation of valence electrons in an atom and the geometry of bonds and lone pairs in molecules. Offers the advantage of easily distinguishing lone pairs from bonds and particular bonds from each other by color coding. (JRH)
