Moving Beyond the Single Center--Ways to Reinforce Molecular Orbital Theory in an Inorganic Course
Cass, Marion E.; Hollingsworth, William E.
Journal of Chemical Education, v81 n7 p997 Jul 2004
It is suggested that molecular theory should be taught earlier in the inorganic chemistry curriculum even in the introductory chemistry course in order to integrate molecular orbital arguments more effectively throughout the curriculum. The method of teaching relies on having access to molecular modeling software as having access to such software is vital for testing the soundness of basic ideas as well as achieving a more complex assessment of energy ordering of molecular orbits.
