Just Click It: Undergraduate Procedures for the Copper(I)-Catalyzed Formation of 1,2,3-Triazoles from Azides and Terminal Acetylenes
Sharpless, William D.; Peng Wu; Hansen, Trond Vidar; Lindberg, James G.
Journal of Chemical Education, v82 n12 p1833 Dec 2005
The click chemistry uses only the most reliable reactions to build complex molecules from olefins, electrophiles and heteroatom linkers. A variation on Huisgen's azide-alkyne 1,2,3-triazole synthesis, the addition of the copper (I), the premium example of the click reaction, catalyst strongly activates terminal acetylenes towards the 1,3-dipole in organic azides, exclusively forming the 1,4-disubstituited regioisomer.
