Using "Basic Principles" to Understand Complex Science: Nicotine Smoke Chemistry and Literature Analogies

The chemical and physical properties of nicotine and its carboxylic acid salts found in tobacco provided as an interesting example to understand basic principles of complex science. The result showed that the experimental data used were inconsistent to the conclusion made, and the transfer of nicotine smoke from tobacco to smoke cannot be explained by the pH of an aqueous extract of tobacco.
