The standard curriculum for introductory chemistry does not reflect the needs of students, is enforced by custom and untenured teachers who deviate from it endanger prospects for tenure. Hence, revision of the introductory curriculum should involve research into actual needs and interests of students and should reflect what modern workers conceive to be truth.
