A Simple Method for Measuring Ground-Level Ozone in the Atmosphere
Seeley, John V.; Seeley, Stacy K.; Bull, Arthur W.; Fehir, Richard J., Jr.; Cornwall, Susan; Knudsen, Gabriel A.
Journal of Chemical Education, v82 n2 p282-285 Feb 2005
An iodometric assay that allows the ground-level ozone concentration to be determined with an inexpensive sampling apparatus and a homemade photometer is described. This laboratory experiment applies a variety of different fundamental concepts including oxidation-reduction chemistry, the ideal gas law, and spectroscopic analysis and also provides the students with valuable experiences such as constructing simple instrumentation and collecting environmental samples.
