An Inquiry-Based Chemistry Laboratory Promoting Student Discovery of Gas Laws
Bopegedera, A. M. R. P.
Journal of Chemical Education, v84 n3 p465-468 Mar 2007
Gas laws are taught in most undergraduate general chemistry courses and even in some high school chemistry courses. This article describes the author's experience of using the laboratory to allow students to "discover" gas laws instead of the conventional approach of using the lecture to teach this concept. Students collected data using Vernier sensors and software and then graphed the data for analysis using Microsoft Excel. A brief description of the success of this approach--compared with the conventional approach--is also presented. (Contains 5 figures, 1 table and 2 notes.)
