Oxidation of Aromatic Aldehydes Using Oxone
Gandhari, Rajani; Maddukuri, Padma P.; Thottumkara, Vinod K.
Journal of Chemical Education, v84 n5 p852 May 2007
The experiment demonstrating the feasibility of using water as a solvent for organic reactions which highlights the cost and environmental benefits of its use is presented. The experiment encourages students to think in terms of the reaction mechanism of the oxidation of aldehydes knowing that potassium persulfate is the active oxidant in Oxone and enhances the eco-friendly aspect of the procedure.
