A Comparison of Social Skills in Adults with Autistic Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified, and Mental Retardation.
Njardvik, Urdur; Matson, Johnny L.; Cherry, Katie E.
Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, v29 n4 p287-95 Aug 1999
This study compared the social skills of 36 adults, all with profound mental retardation and 12 with autism and 12 with pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDDNOS). Autistic subjects differed significantly from the other two groups and the PDDNOS group demonstrated better nonverbal social skills than the autism group but not the mental retardation group.
