Peer reviewedWolfe, Edward W. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2003
Developed a procedure for evaluating item-level nonresponse bias in questionnaire items using logistic regression to determine whether nonresponses are random or systematic in nature for one question from the National Education Longitudinal Study of 1994 concerning drug use behaviors. Identified systematic nonresponses and the magnitude of…

Peer reviewedMyford, Carol M.; Wolfe, Edward W. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2002
Examined a procedure for identifying and resolving discrepancies in ratings, focusing on the third rater adjudication procedure used in scoring the Test of Spoken English. Results for 1,446 adult examinees demonstrate that implementing a discrepancy resolution procedure is not sufficient in itself for quality control monitoring. (SLD)

Peer reviewedWolfe, Edward W.; Nogle, Sally – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2002
Developed and validated an instrument designed to measure the perceived measurability and importance of the National Athletic Trainers' Association Athletic Training Educational Competencies. Data from 931 athletic trainers and sport medicine physicians support 6 constructs, each of which demonstrates high reliability. (SLD)

Peer reviewedWolfe, Edward W. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2002
This book is designed to introduce the use of the Rasch model in the social sciences at a level that requires a minimal understanding of statistics. It demonstrates how the Rasch model can be applied to a variety of social science problems and prepares readers to conduct and interpret their own analyses. (SLD)

Peer reviewedWolfe, Edward W.; Moulder, Bradley C.; Myford, Carol M. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2001
Describes a class of rater effects, differential rater functioning over time (DRIFT), that depicts rater-by-time interactions. Also describes Rasch measurement procedures designed to identify these types of DRIFT in rating data. Applied these procedures to simulated data to show their usefulness in classifying raters as aberrant or non-aberrant…

Peer reviewedSchulman, Jessica A.; Wolfe, Edward W. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2000
Undertook two studies (n=113 and n=55) a year apart, to create an instrument that measures nutritional competence and self-efficacy among prospective physicians. Results using Rasch modeling demonstrate the reliability and validity of the scale for assessing mastery of applied nutrition among prospective physicians. (SLD)

Peer reviewedWolfe, Edward W.; Dozier, Hallie – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2000
Developed an instrument to measure invasive plant environmentalism (knowledge and attitudes concerning non-native plant invasions). Scaled responses of 237 plant nursery customers to a 17-item standardized interview using the partial credit model. Results indicate that the instrument measured the construct of invasive plant environmentalism…

Peer reviewedWolfe, Edward W. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2000
Describes Rasch measurement procedures for equating multiple test forms or calibrating an item bank. The procedures entail: (1) selecting a data collection design; (2) estimating parameters; (3) transforming the parameters to a common scale; and (4) evaluating the quality of the linkage between the forms. (SLD)
