Summary: Teaching Strategies Used to Develop Short-Term Memory in Deaf Children
Gibson, Isabel
Deafness and Education International, v6 n3 p171-172 Oct 2004
The research was motivated by an interest in improving the teaching of deaf children. It is important to identify what has been written about short-term memory and the deaf, and this was achieved through a literature search and review. An extensive survey was conducted to ascertain what knowledge existing teachers of the deaf have about short-term memory. First hand observation was used to see if research findings and theoretical knowledge are being applied in the classroom. The research yielded several conclusions and recommendations. Perhaps one of the most important ones was that university researchers do not restrict their work to discovering "how" the deaf remember per se, but focus on "what" teachers can do to improve the memory of the deaf children they teach.
