Examines the appropriateness of using the word monogamy in acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) education, identifying basic concepts within prescriptive messages about human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); reviewing definitions, applications, and interpretations of monogamy in the literature; presenting a content analysis of sexuality and AIDS/HIV in textbooks; and discussing strategies to more effectively deliver this prescriptive health message.
