A college study explored changes in the attitudes of students who completed human sexuality courses in the northeastern and southeastern United States. Changes were observed in students' attitudes toward homosexuality, sex drive, religion, and sexual behavior between consenting adults. (PP)

"Health Skills for Life" is a comprehensive health education program for kindergarten through high school that teaches health skills essential for developing a healthy life style. State Department of Education procedures used to certify the program in Oregon are described. (PP)

If health educators refuse to face the issue of death caused by war, hunger, and other man-made catastrophies, they may be unable to act to improve the quality of life. Local programs which encourage social well-being and resources which deal with peace on the global level are discussed. (PP)

Health educators should be able to use mass comunications media and should be knowledgeable about the most recent media theories, methods, and technologies. Suggestions for making effective use of television, newspapers, and other media for disseminating health information and for conducting media campaigns are given. (PP)

A study of criteria for promotion, tenure, and merit in college departments of health education revealed that fewer than half the colleges responding had a written policy on faculty advancement and that more than half the department chairpersons reported dissatisfaction with their institutions' policies. Reacting to community opposition to a pregnancy prevention program, the Suffolk County, New York, health department assessed community needs and values to develop a program that would be acceptable. The program focuses on informing parents about teenage sexual problems and emphasizes parent-child communication. (PP)

"Self-Discovery" is an innovative health education curriculum for secondary schools that stresses development of cognitive/affective skills and practice in self-directed behavior. Methods used to evaluate the curriculum's effect on students' self-esteem and locus of control are discussed, and evaluation problems are pointed out. (PP)

If the needs of the mentally retarded are to be met, sex educators must receive more training to work with this population. The importance of helping such students deal with their sexuality and techniques that sex educators can use to accomplish this aim are discussed. (PP)

College health education programs should adopt some courses to train personnel who can direct health management programs in the private sector. Guides are provided for undergraduate courses and for evaluating a company's health program needs. A sampling of current corporate health management activities is also given. (PP)

A study was made of 131 families in an impoverished township in Illinois in order to generate basic health information on the adult members of a poor, rural Black community. Results are presented. (MT)

More than 600 never-married college students completed a questionnaire regarding their attitudes toward 10 contraceptive options. Results were analyzed separately for Blacks and Whites, and then for males and females. Findings are discussed. (MT)
