Effectiveness of Small Group Social Skills Lessons with Elementary Students
Chupp, Amy I.; Boes, Susan R.
Georgia School Counselors Association Journal, v19 n1 p92-111 Nov 2012
This action research study (ARS) describes the effectiveness of small group social skills lessons with elementary students, using "Too Good for Violence: A Curriculum for Non-violent Living" by the Mendez Foundation. The school counselor and school social worker taught the curriculum in a structured small group of 4th grade students in 8 weekly sessions. The skills taught were conflict resolution, anger management, respect for self and others, and effective communication. The ARS provides current findings to school counselors, regarding the impact that the social skills lessons have on elementary students' knowledge of skills, behavior, and academics. (Contains 2 tables and 4 figures.)
