Being Professional? Conceptualising Early Years Professionalism in England
Simpson, Donald
European Early Childhood Education Research Journal, v18 n1 p5-14 Mar 2010
This paper is a contribution to the discussion on early years professionalism and reports findings from a qualitative research project that tracked a small number of early years professionals who were among the first in England to acquire this new status early in 2007. Drawing on interview data, the paper highlights shortfalls in perspectives developed to date explaining professionalism in the early years and an alternative perspective with a more precise concept of agency is developed with it is claimed greater explanatory power.
