The academic accomplishments and the lasting influence of the collaborations of Neil Postman and Charles Weingartner in the vision of teaching English are discussed. The "splinters of ice in the heart" is a set of principles, which are very crucial for understanding how language works, from the book "Teaching as a Subversive Activity" by Postman and Weingartner.
