Peer reviewedSimono, R. B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Previous research indicating that males entering the clergy tend to have "feminine" profiles on psychological tests is challenged. A sample of entering clergy students were administered two personality measures. Results did not support the previous research. (JKS)
Descriptors: Clergy, Females, Femininity, Higher Education
Peer reviewedKlockars, Alan J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Correlations between scores on two booklets of the Edwards Personality Inventory and ratings by peers of applicants for the position of resident assistant in the university dormitories are reported. Results indicate that applicants are rated higher if they describe themselves as having positive work-related and interpersonal traits. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Evaluation Criteria, Higher Education, Individual Characteristics, Peer Evaluation
Peer reviewedBonk, Edward C.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Changes in level of actualizing among counselor trainees at the Master's degree level as measured by the Personality Orientation Dimensions were examined. It was concluded that the instrument was sensitive to those changes. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Counselor Training, Counselors, Graduate Students, Higher Education
Peer reviewedKnapp, Robert R.; Knapp, Lila – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The Personal Orientation Dimensions scale, a refinement of the Personal Orientation Inventory, is investigated. Results support the concurrent validity of the Personal Orientation Dimensions scale, and the construct validity of both scales. (JKS)
Descriptors: Adults, Correlation, Rating Scales, Self Actualization
Peer reviewedMichael, William B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
For each of two revised forms of the Dimensions of Self-Concept measure (intermediate and secondary forms), statistical information is presented concerning the intercorrelations of each of five factor scales, the reliability and standard error of measurement of each scale, and the results of item analyses. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Elementary Secondary Education, Error of Measurement, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedFernandes, Lucia M.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Three essentially parallel forms of the Dimensions of Self-Concept scale were factor analyzed using three samples of students: one elementary school sample, one junior high school sample, and one high school sample. Results are interpreted in terms of the reliability and validity of the scale. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Elementary Secondary Education, Factor Analysis, Self Concept
Peer reviewedMoran, Melanie; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The Barksdale Self-Esteem Test, the Piers-Harris Childrens Self Concept Scale and the Tennessee Self Concept Scale were administered to three samples of lower middle-class junior high school students and factor analyzed. Six factors were found to be essentially invariant across samples. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Grade 7, Junior High Schools, Self Concept
Peer reviewedParish, Thomas S.; Taylor, James C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The Personal Attribute Inventory for Children (Parish) and the Piers-Harris Childrens Self Concept Scale were administered to samples of third and sixth grade children. Test-retest reliability and correlations between scales support the usefulness of both scales. (JKS)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Grade 3, Grade 6, Self Concept Measures
Peer reviewedHanna, Gerald S.; Neely, Margery A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
An aspect of construct validity of the six scales of the Career Maturity Inventory was investigated with 127 ninth-grade students. The scales were found to be more highly intercorrelated than is desirable. Coupled with their modest reliabilities, this outcome was interpreted as a major limitation of the instrument. (Author)
Descriptors: Career Awareness, Discriminant Analysis, Grade 9, Secondary Education
Peer reviewedNapier, John D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Two experiments were conducted to assess the ability of preservice teachers to score moral thought statements using Kohlberg's theory of moral development. Results indicate that teachers, in general, are not able to rate the statements with consistency. (JKS)
Descriptors: Developmental Stages, Higher Education, Moral Development, Rating Scales
Peer reviewedMartin, John D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Barron's Ego Strength Scale and Rokeach's Dogmatism Scale were administered to a sample of undergraduates in order to assess the relationship between ego strength and dogmatism. A significant inverse relationship was found, as predicted. (JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Dogmatism, Higher Education, Individual Characteristics
Peer reviewedMartin, John D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The relationship between Elizur's Hostility Scoring on the Rorschach Test and the Acting-Out Score on the Hand Test was examined. Correlations between the two measures (using several scoring procedures) ranged from .40 to .64. (JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Hostility, Individual Characteristics, Psychological Testing
Peer reviewedHsu, Louis M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The problem of determining the significance level which should be used in statistical tests of item validity in order to minimize type I errors is discussed. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Hypothesis Testing, Item Analysis, Power (Statistics), Statistical Significance
Peer reviewedRotton, James; Schonemann, Peter H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
In numerous applications of the analysis of variance, it is necessary to compute the power of F tests having numerically high alpha (significance) levels. This article tabulates the power of F tests for a variety of degrees of freedom. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Data Analysis, Hypothesis Testing, Power (Statistics)
Peer reviewedShine, Lester C., II – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Some recent developments for the Shine-Bower single-subject analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Shine Combined ANOVA are integrated in order to remove the restriction of an even number of trials for the Shine Combined ANOVA. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Hypothesis Testing, Nonparametric Statistics
