Deegan, John, Jr. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
It is demonstrated here that standardized regression coefficients greater than one can legitimately occur. Furthermore, the relationship between the occurrence of such coefficients and the extent of multicollinearity present among the set of predictor variables in an equation is examined. Comments on the interpretation of these coefficients are…

Roth, Gary L.; Daniel, Wayne W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A table of critical values is presented for use with Chacko's ordered alternatives test for the analysis of variance. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Hypothesis Testing, Research Design, Statistical Data

Rogers, Paul W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Two procedures for the display of item analysis statistics are described. One procedure allows for investigation of difficulty; the second plots item difficulty against item discrimination. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Difficulty Level, Graphs, Guidelines, Item Analysis

Shine, Lester C., II – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Procedures for carrying out a Shine Combined (repeated measures) Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) when there are unequal group sizes are described. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Case Studies, Hypothesis Testing, Research Design

Gaito, John – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The conduct of multiple post hoc comparison procedures following an analysis of variance is discussed. Various procedures are contrasted in terms of appropriateness, power, and other features. Octhogonal and nonorthogonal comparisons are discussed. (JKS)

Berenson, Mark L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A distribution-free test for trend in one-way experimental designs is described. Critical values are derived, and a schematic diagram is given so that a computer package can be implemented. (Author/JKS)

Schmeidler, James – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The basic assumption of Cooper's nonparametric test for trend (EJ 125 069) is questioned. It is contended that the proper assumption alters the distribution of the statistic and reduces its usefulness. (JKS)

Panackal, Abraham A.; Heft, Carl S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Two multiple choice forms of two cloze reading tests were developed from responses to the cloze forms by college undergraduates. These tests were investigated using the original keys, empirical keys, and option weighted keys. Reliability and validity data are reported. (Author/JKS)

Werts, C. E.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A procedure for estimating the reliability of a factorially complex composite is considered. An application of its use with Scholastic Aptitude Test data is provided. (Author/JKS)

Levy, Kenneth J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Kaminsky and Nelson's method for estimating the times of future "success" from the times of earlier "successes" in the same sample is discussed in terms of its potential applications to long term psychological treatment, research, or training programs. (Author/JKS)

Gwinn, Diane G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
An instrument for identifying disturbed and normal third to fifth grade children was evaluated. The instrument employs verb choices in a forced-choice sentence-completion format. A cross-validation procedure established high percentages of correct classifications. (Author/JKS)

Velicer, Wayne F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A definition of a suppressor variable is presented which is based on the relation of the semipartial correlation to the zero order correlation. Advantages of the definition are given. (Author/JKS)

Corder-Bolz, Charles R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Six models for evaluating change are examined via a Monte Carlo study. All six models show a lack of power. A modified analysis of variance procedure is suggested as an alternative. (JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Analysis of Variance, Educational Change, Error of Measurement

Schriesheim, Chester A.; Schriesheim, Janet F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The invariance of results from magnitude estimation and pair comparison treatment of complete ranks scaling procedures is examined. Whether or not roughly interval measurement is achieved by these methods is also explored. Implications for the validity of measurement are briefly discussed. (Author/JKS)

Michael, William B.; Shaffer, Phyllis – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The California State University and Colleges English Placement Test was designed to provide information about the reading and writing skills of newly admitted college students. The validity of this measure is examined. (Author/JKS)
