Vandewalle, Don – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The development and validation of an instrument to assess goal orientation for the work domain are reported. Results of exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and nomological network analysis of results from 556 undergraduates all support the conclusion that the instrument operationalizes the theorized…

Worrell, Frank C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The factor structure of the Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents (S. Harter, 1985) was studied with 248 academically talented adolescents. Four of Harter's eight factors (Scholastic Competence, Athletic Competence, Job Competence, and Behavioral Conduct) were replicated, and items on four additional subscales appeared to tap the domains of…

Hutchison, Steven – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine the construct validity of scores from the Survey of Perceived Organizational Support (SPOS)(R. Eisenberger and others, 1986) using responses of 205 college faculty and staff members. Consistent with previous research, the SPOS was found to be unidimensional and distinguishable from two similarly…

Friedman, Isaac A.; Bendas-Jacob, Orit – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The development of a measure of test anxiety among adolescents, the FRIEDBEN Test Anxiety Scale, is reported. It is a 23-item scale with subscales for Social Derogation, Cognitive Obstruction, and Tenseness. Data regarding replicability and construct validity are reported using responses of 3,858 students in 23 junior high and high schools. (SLD)

LeBlanc, William G.; Williams, Richard H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
A large sample technique attributed to L. Marascuilo, based on the multiple comparison technique of H. Scheffe, was programmed with the Statistical Analysis System (SAS), focusing on comparisons among independent binomial samples. Use of the SAS program is discussed. (SLD)

Cronbach, Lee J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Through the standard error, rather than a reliability coefficient, generalizability theory provides an indicator of the uncertainty attached to school and individual scores on performance assessments. Recommendations are made to apply generalizability theory to current performance assessments, emphasizing practices that differ from usual…

Plake, Barbara S.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The dominant profile judgment method, designed for use with profiles of polytomous scores on exercises in a performance-based assessment, is presented as a standard-setting method. The approach guides standard-setting panelists in articulating their standard-setting policies and allows for complex policy statements. (SLD)

Zwick, Rebecca – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Recent simulations have shown that, for a given sample size, the Mantel-Haenszel (MH) variances tend to be larger when items are administered to randomly selected examinees than when they are administered adaptively. Results suggest that adaptive testing may lead to more efficient application of MH differential item functioning analyses. (SLD)

Chen, Ssu-Kuang; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
A simulation study explored the effect of population distribution on maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and expected a posteriori (EAP) estimation in computerized adaptive testing based on the rating scale model of D. Andrich (1978). The choice between EAP and MLE for particular situations is discussed. (SLD)

Hartman, Steve E.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Results for 75 medical students and 248 undergraduates suggest that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator appears to sample only 3 bipolar personality dimensions rather than the 4 that the use of "type tables" implies. One of these dimensions shares substantial variance with the cognitive model of hemispheric dominance. (SLD)

Shermis, Mark D.; Chang, Shu-Hui – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The degree to which an undergraduate mathematics curriculum matched the item difficulty levels of representative mathematics problems based on that sequence was studied with 62 items and 423 undergraduates and 937 high school seniors. Results suggest congruence between curriculum sequence and item difficulty levels. (SLD)

Barnes, Laura L. B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The Faculty Beliefs about Grades Inventory, a three-scale instrument, was developed to measure faculty beliefs about norm- and criterion-referenced grading and attitudes toward the sorting and selection functions of grades. Results with 243 college faculty members show high negative correlation between attitudes about norm-referenced and…

Koustelios, Athanasios D.; Bagiatis, Konstantinos – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
An instrument to measure employee job satisfaction in Greece was developed and tested with 212 and 516 employees. Exploratory factor analysis indicated a six-factor solution with high internal consistency. Structural equation modeling showed a fairly good fit to the model, with need for slight improvement. (SLD)

Becker, Thomas E.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Three attachment style scales were developed. The factor structure of the attachment style construct was supported through exploratory factor analysis of attachment style scores from 1,181 and 545 recent college graduates. Additional evidence for score validity is presented, based on a measure of the Big Five personality traits. (SLD)

Smith, Eleanor F.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Evidence for the internal consistency-reliability and construct validity of scores on the 6 dimensions of the Dimensions of Self-Concept Scale was provided through results from 107 registered nurses. Confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analyses indicated that a six-factor oblique model accounted for the greatest proportion of the covariance.…
