Peer reviewedHendel, Darwin D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The present study investigated the stability of response intransitivity in the method of paired comparisons over a two-year period. Intransitivity scores obtained from two administrations of the Minnesota Importance Questionnaire were correlated to determine stability. Results provided support for the linear relationship between the two measures.…

Peer reviewedHsu, Louis M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
Though the Paired-Item-Score (Eakin and Long) (EJ 174 780) method of scoring true-false tests has certain advantages over the traditional scoring methods (percentage right and right minus wrong), these advantages are attained at the cost of a larger risk of misranking the examinees. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedRichards, Herbert C.; Gamache, Robert – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The Belief Polarity Scale, an index of racial prejudice, was administered to 76 educators of mixed racial background before and after an interracial human relations workshop. Analysis of variance revealed that polarity scores discriminated by race and that change in polarity was a function of pretest dogmatism. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedLawson, J. S.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A 30-item measure of self-esteem in social situations was developed. Factor analysis revealed that a single general factor accounted for 39.7 percent of the total variance. Reliability data based on 128 subjects and normative data based on 265 subjects are provided. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedCox, C. Philip – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The first of two experiments on direct evaluation procedures involved students' judgments of how well they understood terms and concepts presented in a course. In the second, responses to short examination-type questions were obtained. In both, a class comprehension index was sufficiently sensitive to detect differences due to instruction.…

Peer reviewedAiken, Lewis R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The dependence of item discrimination index (D) on item difficulty index (p), and the relationship of D and p to the phi coefficient are delineated. A table of critical values of D significant at the .10 and .05 levels, with p ranging from .10 to .90, is presented. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedWilcox, Rand R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The classical estimate of a binomial probability function is to estimate its mean in the usual manner and to substitute the results in the appropriate expression. Two alternative estimation procedures are described and examined. Emphasis is given to the single administration estimate of the mastery test reliability. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedSmith, Gene M.; Fogg, Charles P. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
Double-entry expectancy tables show the relationship between both high school grade point average and Scholastic Aptitude Test verbal scores and academic achievement at the College of Basic Studies of Boston University. The usefulness of the grid is discussed and compared with multiple regression. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Entrance Examinations, Expectancy Tables, Grade Point Average
Peer reviewedMessmer, Donald J.; Solomon, Robert J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A method for testing differential predictability in a selection model was illustrated on data from 103 male and 24 female graduate students. Since the models were not homogeneous in the variance, a method for adjusting for heterogeneity was presented. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedShepard, Lorrie – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The California Entry Level Test (ELT) means are used with demographic variables to predict differences among California schools and districts on subsequent reading achievement tests. Factor analyses resulted in distinct factors for each of the subtests. The validity of the ELT was very high for its intended purpose. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedMichael, William B.; Shaffer, Phyllis – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
For a sample of more than 900 college students and subsamples of at least 50 students in each of nine departments, concurrent validity coefficients were determined between scores on several examinations reflecting competencies in standard written English and an external criterion measure of cumulative college grade point average. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedBajtelsmit, John W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A validational procedure was used, which involved a matrix of intercorrelations among tests reresenting four areas of Chartered Life Underwriter content knowledge, each measured by objective multiple-choice and essay methods. Results indicated that the two methods of measuring the same trait yielded fairly consistent estimates of content…
