Hess, Jonathan H.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
For 224 freshmen students, the degree of relationship was sought between two criterion measures (grade point average (GPA) and units satisfactorily completed) and four cognitive and eleven affective variables. High school GPA was the most valid predictor; affective variables explained only 40-60 percent as much variance as high school GPA.…

Hanna, Gerald S.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Two studies addressed the construct validity of the IDEA Form H Survey with which high school students rate instruction. Both studies provided indirect evidence of the validity of this instrument as a measure of student progress on goals selected by the teacher of each class. (Author)

King, Daniel W.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Bipolar adjective rating scales were constructed to evaluate selected needs from Murray's theory of personality. Internal consistency estimates of the bipolar adjective measures compared favorably to those of the Personality Research Form scales. Results suggest that certain personality traits are more amenable to valid measurement by bipolar…

Phifer, Sandra J.; Plake, Barbara S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The results of this study of the factorial validity of the Bias in Attitudes Survey (BIAS) suggest the the BIAS in relation to other sex-role scales is measuring more complete and complex attitudes toward sex roles. Two factors represented both the traditional view of male/female roles and a nonsexist view. (Author/BW)

Richards, James M., Jr. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
This study examined the relationships of the National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972 measures of locus of control and self-esteem to differential goal attainment in education, work, marriage, and fertility. The results raise questions about the validity of the measures, their underlying theories, or both. (Author/BW)

Johnson, Brian W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Regression analyses indicated that the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory has convergent validity with regard to the Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale and the Coopersmith Behavioral Academic Assessment Scale, has discriminant validity with regard to the Children's Social Desirability Scale, is sensitive to differences in achievement level,…

Valencia, Richard R.; Rankin, Richard J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The concurrent validity and reliability of Kaufman's short-form version of the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities were examined for a sample of 342 Mexican-American preschool and kindergarten age children. The results showed that generally the positive psychometric properties of the Kaufman short form were also noted for the children in this…

Graham, Steve; Deaton, William – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The responses of 205 regular classroom teaches to the Rucker-Gable Educational Programming Scale were factor analyzed. Results indicated that the instrument measures four dimensions, accounting for only 42 percent of the total variance. Estimates of internal consistency for the scores and subscores were also modest. Broodbooks, Wendy J.; Elmore, Patricia B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
The effects of sample size, number of variables, and population value of the congruence coefficient on the sampling distribution of the congruence coefficient were examined. Sample data were generated on the basis of the common factor model, and principal axes factor analyses were performed. (Author/LMO)

Raymond, Mark R.; Roberts, Dennis M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Data were simulated to conform to covariance patterns taken from personnel selection literature. Incomplete data matrices were treated by four methods. Treated matrices were subjected to multiple regression analyses. Resulting regression equations were compared to equations from original, complete data. Results supported using covariate…

Wyatt, Randall C.; Meyers, Lawrence S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
One hundred and twenty-eight subjects responded to one of four differently labeled five-point Likert-type response scales. Although no significant differences in test means and in reliability estimates were found among response scales, the scales did differ on measures of variability. (Author/LMO)

Hocevar, Dennis; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
The purpose of this study was to demonstrate a potential difficulty with relying on null models in LISREL confirmatory factor analytic measurement models and to offer several suggestions for dealing with this concern. Using randomly generated factors in a matrix of 46 aptitude tests, it was shown that this approach is unlikely to reject even…

Aiken, Lewis R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Formulas for transforming scores and statistics on a rating scale having any number of categories to a scale having a different number of categories are described. To illustrate the use of one of the formulas, the means and variances of items on six forms of a course evaluation questionnaire were compared. (Author/LMO)

Benson, Jeri – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This study demonstrated the use of confirmatory factor analysis to investigate the existence of item bias in an affective scale measuring self-concept. Data were collected from three ethnic groups in grade eight. A differential response pattern found across the three groups indicated potential bias in score interpretation. (Author/LMO)

Kingma, Johannes; Reuvekamp, Johan – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This paper describes a PASCAL program that computes both different types of transitions and learning statistics suitable for learning experiments in which a two-stage Markov model is used. The frequency counts of the different transitions are used for estimating the parameters of the two-stage Markov model. (Author/LMO)
