Conger, Anthony J.; Ward, David G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
Sixteen measures of reliability for two-category nominal scales are compared. Upon correcting for chance agreement, there are only five distinct indices: Fleiss's modification of A-sub-1, the phi coefficient, Cohen's kappa, and two intraclass coefficients. Recommendations for choosing an agreement index are made based on definitions, magnitude,…

Morrison, James A.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The concurrent and discriminant validity of La Prueba de Analisis Auditivo, a Spanish auditory perception test, and the validity of the perceptual deficit hypothesis and of hypotheses derived from verbal processing theory were evaluated in a sample of 114 second-grade Hispanic pupils receiving reading instruction in Spanish. Simpson, Robert G.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between auditory discrimination, as measured by the Wepman Auditory Discrimination Test, and reading achievement, as measured by the Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests. After controlling for intelligence, there was little more than a random relationship between auditory discrimination and…

Perney, Jan; Morris, Darrell – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The Vowel Matching Test (VMT) measures primary grade children's ability to discriminate medial vowel sounds. Based on the responses of 43 first-grade pupils, the results indicated that the VMT correlated .76 with a word recognition test. It exhibited an internal consistency coefficient of .78. (Author/BW)

Valencia, Richard R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
Concurrent validity of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) was investigated with 42 English-speaking Mexican-American Head Start children. Correlation coefficients between the five K-ABC Global Scale Standard scores and the three Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence IQ Scale scores were typically in the .50s and…

Michael, William B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The development and construct validation of the Dimensions of Self-Concept (DOSC), Form H, are described. The 20-item subscales of the preliminary research form furnished parallel estimates of reliability ranging from .83 to .91. The five subscales show promising construct validity, as evidenced by their factor structure. (Author/BW)

Galejs, Irma; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The Personal Reaction Scale was developed as a test for adults to measure their locus of control perceptions. It was administered to women college students, their parents, and parents of preschool children. Responses were factor analyzed to yield six factors: Fate, Social Self, Personal Self, Self-Determination, Luck, and Powerlessness.…

Michael, William B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The study determined whether the hypothesized constructs of the Dimensions of Self-Concept Scale (DOSC), a measure of academic self-concept, could be identified for a college sample as well as eighth-grade students. DOSC seemed to be a valid indicator of academic self-concept for college students. (Author/DWH)

Plake, Barbara S.; Ansorge, Charles J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
Scores representing number of items right and self-perceptions were analyzed for a nonquantitative examination that was assembled into three forms. Multivariate ANCOVA revealed no significant effects for the cognitive measure. However, significant sex and sex x order effects were found for perceptions scores not parallel to those reported…

Fu, Victoria R.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The effects of stimulus dimension and mode of exploration on preschool children's responses to pattern meanings and unusual uses tasks of original thinking were studied. The 3D tasks generated more responses overall. Visual and haptic exploration combined with 3D was the only condition studied to meet all criteria for construct validity.…

Pratt, C.; Hacker, R. G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
A unidimensional latent trait model was used to test a single-factor hypothesis of the Lawson Classroom Test of Formal Reasoning. The test failed to provide a valid measure of formal reasoning. This was a result of test format which neglected aspects of formal reasoning emphasized by Inhelder and Piaget. (Author/DWH)

Piotrowski, Chris; Dunham, Frances Y. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
Research on the semantic differential technique has provided evidence for variance in Osgood's formulation of dimensions of connotative meaning. Retest data based on Piotrowski's original sample is reported. Results indicate support for stability and consistency of the Evaluation dimension. Moderate consistency was found in scales comprising the…

Knapp-Lee, Lisa; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The relationship of scores on the COPSystem Interest Inventory, Form P to scores on similar constructs of the Vocational Preference Inventory was studied. Scales were matched according to the theoretical assumptions of the constructs. The pattern of magnitude of correlations is interpreted as providing evidence for the instruments' construct…

Merritt, Sharon L.; Marshall, Jon Clark – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The Learning Style Inventory assesses learners' preferences. This study was designed to determine reliability and construct validity of Kolb's original ipsative instrument and an alternate normative form. The alternate version was found as reliable as the original, was equivalent in measuring characteristics, and demonstrated comparable construct…
