Lord's method for detecting subgroup bias at the item level uses a three-parameter item characteristic curve model. A chi square statistic is computed on the multivariate differences between the parameter estimates of item discrimination and difficulty. Bilingual Navajo adolescents aged 14-16 were administered the Raven Standard Progressive Matrices (RSPM) and Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS). Correlations were moderate and were higher for females than for males. Norms were established for adolescent Navajos on the RSPM, a nonverbal test of intelligence and visual reasoning. (Author/GDC)

Thirty elementary students referred for possible learning disability were administered the achievement sections of the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery and several traditionally used school district tests. Criterion-related validity of the 126-item cognitive test used in the High School and Beyond study was examined. Sophomore and senior year cognitive test results correlated highly with senior year college entrance examinations for all subtests except civics, and moderately well with senior year grades and class rank. Canadian undergraduate students were administered the British general ability test, AH2, along with a multiple-choice vocabulary test and the Standard Progressive Matrices, a nonverbal ability test. The internal consistency of the Goodenough-Harris Draw-A-Person Test was examined using 150 children, aged 5-8. The 72-item full scales showed good internal consistency at all ages, with no sex differences. Administration of a 42-item short form resulted in sex effects and differential internal consistency.
