Peer reviewedLutz, J. Gary – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
A method is presented for the construction of an artificial data set which will illustrate the behavior of the traditional, the negative, and the reciprocal suppressor variable in multiple regression analysis. It extends the method of Dayton (1972) and includes the previously reciprocal suppression defined by Conger (1974). (Author)

Peer reviewedGross, Alan L.; Kagen, Edward – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
This paper compares an uncorrected with a corrected correlation between a selection test and a test-criterion in terms of expected mean square error (EMSE). It presents evidence that although the uncorrected may be more biased than the corrected correlation, it may have a smaller EMSE value, especially in small samples. (Author/PN)

Peer reviewedAiken, Lewis R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Each of six forms of a 10-item teacher evaluation rating scale, having two to seven response categories per form, was administered to over 100 college students. Means of item responses and item variances increased with the number of response categories. Internal consistency of total scores did not change systematically. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: College Students, Higher Education, Item Analysis, Rating Scales
Peer reviewedChapman, David W.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
This study investigated the validity of Hayes's formula for converting rank-ordered Rokeach Values data to a normal distribution theoretically achieved through the use of rated data. Findings support the validity of Hayes's formula and expand the analytic possibilities of data collected on the Rokeach instrument. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Adults, Correlation, Mathematical Formulas, Nonparametric Statistics
Peer reviewedShine, Lester C., II – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
For the case of one independent group of subjects, illustrative analyses are presented for each of Shine's group actualized, group pure, and generalized pure multi-subject behavior functions. Each of the three analyses is done on the same set of data concerning eight subjects. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Behavioral Science Research, Long Term Memory, Recall (Psychology)
Peer reviewedKing, Daniel W.; King, Lynda A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
A three-facet (items, forms, and testing occasions) random effects generalizability analysis was used to evaluate the precision of each of the five domain measures of the Sex-Role Egalitarianism Scale. The recently developed scale measures attitudes toward the equality of males and females. (Author/PN)

Peer reviewedHafer, Marilyn; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Data from the responses of 104 medical and rehabilitation students to the Attitudes toward Disabled Persons Scale-Form B (ATDP-B) were factor analyzed using a principal components solution, with particular attention to the problem of the number of factors to retain. Research supports ATDP-B use as a unidimensional measure. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Attitudes toward Disabilities, Data Analysis, Disabilities
Peer reviewedAntion, David L.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
An investigation of 148 community college students regarding cheating behaviors on a final multiple-choice test did not lend support for the association of personality constructs with cheating behaviors except for the anxiety construct. Self-reported grade point average and test score were negatively related to cheating. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Achievement Need, Anxiety, Behavior Problems, Cheating
Peer reviewedBruvold, William H.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Initial assessments of the item characteristics, reliability, and validity of the Inquiry Mode Questionnaire (IMQ) are reported. The IMQ was developed by (Harrison and Bramson) to measure the characteristic thinking style of individuals on five major dimensions: synthesist, idealist, analyst, realist, and pragmatist. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Cognitive Style, Correlation, Factor Structure, Item Analysis
Peer reviewedMichael, Joan J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The concurrent validity of Quality of Effort scales and background items from the College Student Experiences (CSE) questionnaire was estimated relative to criterion variables from the same CSE instrument that represented perceptions by students of grades earned to data and growth in selected cognitive and affective dimensions. (Author/PN)

The Reliability and Factorial Validity of the Self-Assessment Questionnaire for Liberal Arts Majors.
Peer reviewedTurner, Carol J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Four hundred twenty-five liberal arts students completed one form of the Self-Assessment Questionnaires developed to help college students identify occupations consistent with their major field of study. The analyses indicate that the reliability and validity of the inventory appears adequate for counseling purposes. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Career Choice, Career Counseling, Factor Analysis, Higher Education
Peer reviewedMcCornack, Robert L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The purpose of this study was to obtain additional evidence regarding bias in the validity of college grade predictions based on high school achievement and a scholastic aptitude test. Bias was examined in ethnic minority groups of Asian, Hispanic, Black, and American Indian college freshmen. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, American Indians, Asian Americans, Black Students
Peer reviewedHogrebe, Mark C.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
This study examined, within the same sample, the effects of gender and race on the relationship between predictor measures of academic performance and subsequent first-year college performance for developmental studies students. (Author/PN)

Peer reviewedBroadus, Robert N.; Elmore, Kenneth E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The validities of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and of undergraduate grade point averages (GPAs) in the prediction of graduate GPAs and a comprehensive examination were compared using a sample of 257 master's degree candidates in a school of library science. GRE verbal scores were the most valid predictors of success. (Author/PN)
