Schurr, Terry K.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The effects of different instructors and student Myers-Briggs Type Inventory personality characteristics on the accuracy of predicting 1041 introductory English composition grades from a single regression equation were investigated. Results suggested that grades were inflated in classes with high means and deflated in classes with low means.…

Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
A scale developed to aid in investigation of students' perceived control at school is described, and data on its reliability, validity, and factor structure are reported. Findings reported indicate the usefulness of the perceived control scale by summarizing data from several studies. (Author/LMO)

Mitchell, Karen J.; Molidor, John B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Research reported in this paper considered the construct validity of a trial essay administered in 1985-87 Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). The addition of the essay caused the non-science factor observed in previous MCAT research to be more strongly defined. (Author/LMO)

Khattab, Ali-Maher; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Based on reanalyses of correlational data obtained from the University of Southern California Aptitudes Research Project, this investigation examined the extent to which two higher order factors of semantic content and symbolic content form Guilford's structure-of-intellect model reflected distinct constructs. Spruill, Jean; Beck, Brett – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
This study is a concurrent validation of Level II of the Wide Range Achievement Test-Revised (WRAT-R) using the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQ scores as criterion measures. Forty-five subjects were administered the WAIS-R and WRAT-R and their scores correlated. (Author/LMO)

Whitworth, Randolph H.; Gibbons, Ruth T. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
A cross-racial comparison of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) was made with the revised version, the WAIS-R. Three groups of Anglo, Black, and Mexican-American male college students were administered both versions of the WAIS on the same day. Significant differences were found among the racial groups. May, Deborah – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The relationships between the Gesell School Readiness Test and standarized achievement and intelligence measures were examined. Children were tested before kindergarten, at the end of kindergarten, and at the end of first grade. Correlation coefficients varied from grade to grade, but did not show a higher correlation between related measures.…

Silverstein, A. B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The intercorrelations among the 11 subtests second edition of the Detroit Tests of Learning Aptitude (DTLA-2) for a portion of the standardization sample were subjected to both factor analysis and cluster analysis. None of the factors or clusters corresponded exactly to any of the eight DTLA-2 composities. (Author/LMO)

Powers, Stephen; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The predictive validity of the California Achievement Test, Reading (CAT-R) was examined for 480 Hispanic and Anglo pupils in Grades 2 and 3. The validity of the CAT-R as a predictor for reading for combined groups of Hispanic and Anglo pupils appeared to be limited. (Author/LMO)

Watkins, David; Astilla, Estela – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Based on data from 411 Filipino secondary school students, the hypothesis was tested that press for achievement from parents, peers, and teachers mediates the relationship between school grades from one year to the next. No support was found for this contention after linear and curvilinear regression models were examined. (Author/LMO)

Scruggs, Thomas E.; Lifson, Steve – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Two experiments compared the ability of learning disabled (LD) students and more typical age peers to answer such reading comprehension questions presented independently of reading passages. Results suggested a relative deficiency on the part of LD students with respect to reasoning strategies and test-taking skills. (Author/LMO)

Hamada, Roger S.; Tomikawa, Sandra – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The Windward Rating Scale (WRS), a locally-developed teacher rating scale of student behavior, was evaluated for potential use as a screening measure. Alliger, George M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1988
Whether measures of different intellectual abilities are positively intercorrelated was studied. A data set of over 7,000 correlations analyzed by J. P. Guilford (1964) does not support the existence of zero correlations among tests of intellectual abilities. Guilford's data-based results are flawed by oversights of problems in the data. (TJH)

Ross, Donald C.; Klein, Donald F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1988
The variance of the sample difference and the power of the "F" test for mean differences were studied under group matching on covariates and also under random assignment. Results shed light on systematic assignment procedures advocated to provide more precise estimates of treatment effects than simple random assignment. (TJH)

Grosse, Martin E.; Wright, Benjamin D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1988
Psychometric characteristics of the test scores of 5,663 examinees on six patient management problem tests were studied. The total scores can be divided into subscores based on all options keyed "select" and "omit." Component scores are generally correlated negatively, as reflected in reduced discrimination indices and reliability. (TJH)
